For years, we treated AI security as a future problem. Prompt injection? Theoretical. Autonomous agents as insider threats? That's 2027 risk. Attackers weaponizing AI frameworks at scale? Not yet.

The Issue: On March 5-8, 2026, CISA and multiple Tier-1 security vendors confirmed a global breach campaign using CyberStrikeAI, an autonomous attack framework capable of reconnaissance, exploitation, and lateral movement without human intervention. The scope: 600+ FortiGate firewalls across 55 countries. The result: undetected access to core network infrastructure controlling enterprise traffic, critical systems, and cloud gateways.

But that's just the visible attack. Simultaneously, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto researchers detected attackers publishing malicious AI servers impersonating Hugging Face, OpenAI, and Anthropic and hijacking AI development teams into downloading compromised models. Prompt injection attacks embedded in GitHub issues are steering AI coding assistants to exfiltrate private code repositories. Hidden commands in Stack Overflow answers are commanding AI agents to delete backups and disable logging.

The Opportunity:

The best-prepared organizations are already implementing three defensive shifts:

1. AI Agent Isolation & Goal Verification. Organizations are deploying "digital sandboxes" for autonomous agents — environments where agents can execute tasks but cannot modify their own objectives, escalate privileges, or communicate outside verified channels. Think of it as MFA for agent decisions.

2. Prompt Injection Detection & Input Sanitization.
